What the Whale?!

Message from the future:
This article was written and published in January, far before the changes to the generations in U1/Earth. All the basics still apply, the strategy would still be low zone turbo harvesting, but it might be interesting to spend a little bit more on quality > quantity and the asset prices are not the same anymore after that announcement.

What are the changes?

  • Only gen 3 eggs can be created, for 150 shards + WAX
  • Gen 3 Bees will have 99 floor and 130 ceiling stats
    Per 1st April:
  • Gen 3: 60% decrease in Queen Boost effectiveness
  • Gen 2: 30% decrease in Queen Boost effectiveness
  • There is an event item coming that will give players the option to increase the Generation of a Bee.

Let's only look at the Queen Boost effectiveness for gen 3 now.
Before the changes (right now) a 270 gen 1 queen would give 108 stats to the gen 3. A 120 floor bee (overall) would end up as 228, 262 with other bees, and would bring in 0.33 hxd per run (with 2 others).

After the change the queen will add 43 base stats, the bee would end up as 187 with 2 other bees and the bee would bring in 0.21 hxd per run.

Now you can do the math when a different generation gets more attractive. One example;
If a gen 1 bee is 150 hxd more expensive, it would take you 1250 runs with the gen 1 to make up for the difference (150/(0.33-0.21)), with 5 runs per day this would be 250 days. After that the gen1 would be a better buy.

Are you going to play in U1 for 250, move to U2 when you can, or combine them? It's all up to you!

Back to the original post!

-------------------------------------------------------

Aaaaaaaand we're back!

1 more time for now, but it'll be interesting I hope.

So imagine we have honey to spend. Lots of honey! And you believe shrimps are just for cocktails. Then there is only one thing you can do and that is to become a whale in Honeyland!

Not that I have any experience being a whale, but hey, I have a colorful imagination, so we should be alright. Well fine, I can't do this... I do NOT know how to whale. I tried to come up with a strategy, but this is not in my nature and I can't go that big. So who is this suggestion for?

Who: A player with some budget, let's say about $300-$350, so approx. 17500 hxd at the moment.
What: Low zone turbo harvesting with 1 foot into U2 for crafting and materials.
Time spent: 2 hours a day divided over many brief logins.
Goal: Grow the hive.

Few questions I want to adddress, to start with the most important one:

What should this herring buy right now? (Is that in between a shrimp and a whale? I would say so)

Let me start by saying that there is no right answer. It all depends on your playstyle. If you can only log in twice a day, what you would need to buy is completely different from someone who is able to check for a minute or two every hour. For the below suggestion it is important that you are able to log in several times a day to make it effective.

Let's filter the market place on queens first, all stats >260, gen 1, level 20. First Earth then Cocarro.

U1 queens can't be used in U2 (some exceptions apply), but U2 queens can be used as active hive queen and thus giving the boosts in U1. However, the price difference is substantial, so for the hive queen we will pick the 1st.

Nice new curious queen! Now we need bees! Mood matched bees! There are 49 curious bees for sale <350 hxd each. This will give us 14 Cocarro bees (all gen 1 and 2) and rest Earth. Cost are approx. 12500 hxd (50*250hxd taken as average).

Why you should buy these assets you asked?
Good question! We are on a budget and we want to start! At this moment in time it's especially the lower zones (1-3) that are filled up with, sometimes massive, reserves, so sweeping the floor seems like a good choice at the moment. After a while we will get more quality assets, but for now we'll go for quantity. One more reason is the calculation and analysis I did a few weeks back, see below:

Next you're gonna head over to the item marketplace and buy all paradise makers that are 2hxd or lower, but prioritize meadow and woodland (they have a lot of lands with reserves in the lower zones). Do this daily, or maybe even twice a day.

Protip: Just figure out where Magypto put his paradise maker today and you got a free one 👀🤷👊

Now you blast through the tutorial/welcome pass (should be able to do this within 2 days with some extra effort) for a lot of nice goodies (so don't skip it!), while in the meanwhile you put your NFT bees with your paradise makers on lands like this. Juicy reserves! Your bees will be back in no time and can do at least 5 rounds a day this way. You won't be able to use all your bees at once, but when one batch is in recovery you can send the others.

While harvesting also choose some zone 1 lands, so you can combine it with hunting with your Cocarro bees. The amount of lands will be the thing to manage at this point.

This strategy will require you to log in many times per day. Just for a brief period, you should be finished again soon, but you need to be able to do this.

And keep buying bees with your profits! Or hatch them once you have enough shards.

What about pvp?
Glad you asked! Every day you're gonna do 1 single attack on a dead account, until you rank so high that you'll encounter the real pvp players.
- How do you know it's a dead account?
Go to the "add friend" section and put in the name. You can see for how long the player has been offline.
- Why only 1 per day?
The main goal here is to get the XP from the daily tasks and you won't get more for more attacks, so you want to be low ranked for as long as possible. The extra hxd every day (choose high capacity bees) is also nice.
- What about my shield?
After you attacked, put up an epic shield, this will only make you vulnerable to revenge and with dead accounts this is not possible. In the end shield up for 6 days and after that you'll get a daily free shield upon login.

And now what?
You've done this till level 10 and want to speed up! Head over to the market place and buy some luck items (or craft with your hunted materials). Upgrade 2-3 bees to 250-300 luck. Sign up for Icerax, drop them into your team and you should be good if you replace all knocked-out bees every couple of hours.

Check out this blog for a fight update with this strategy and this one for the result.

You are worthy!
And you got your portal stone! I would recommend to get about 17 Cocarro bees (remember, we already got 14) and 2 queens. This will allow you to siege with 1 team and use 1 for exploration.

You won't be in a shape yet to fully utilize Cocarro and fight with the big boys and girls, but getting some teams set up, will give you many shards to get your VIP level up (yes, you want that) and above all you will get crafting materials, and this will give you some immediate use.

These 2 are absolutely perfect to use on your earth bees and not expensive! The gloves should give you about 0.1 hxd per round extra per bee when you equip 3-4 slots, ROI would be 400 harvests, so less than 3 months.

Use the belt when you want to go to higher zones and low zone harvesting is depleted. Because of how the halving works, this will give you an immediate capacity and agility upgrade.

Note: You will need 1k hxd in your account to do Explore Missions and 5k hxd to Siege and craft. You can also buy both season passes and then you don't need to hold the honey. To me this is about equal at the moment, so probably depends on how well you can control yourself to keep certain honey levels ;-)

Should you breed?
I think this is a difficult question and my answer would have changed at least 3 times in the past year.

There are 2 main options (and everything in between); A very high level queen (close to 280 stats, generation doesn't matter though), obviously with breeds left and lvl 20, so 10 upgrades. This will be an expensive queen.

Probably some people would already not agree on 2 out of those 3 requirements. You can also breed with a low(er) level queen and you can also create bees with only 10 upgrade slots. But your outcome will be lower quality bees.

Let's check both. The floor is approx. 160 hxd at the moment for gen 3 10 slots and Gen 2 20 slots start at 235.

260+ fully upgraded queen starts at 2300 (and will be worth about 200 after 18 breeds). Or go for an egg and probably 10 legendary upgrades which is, not surprisingly, about the same (350 and 10x 180-190 hxd for upgrades). Cheapest possible about 2150 hxd.

NOTE: it is probably the best here to go for a U2 Cocarro Queen, they have a lot of rest value. However the chances are 10% that you will get a Cocarro bee. This is likely still very much worth it, but please do the math.

Low quality queens start at 140 for 6 breeds or 300 for 18 breeds (clearly the better option). Let's consider them fusing material after we're done.

Quality bees:
Queen: 18 breeds for 1950 hxd (200 hxd is rest value) = 108 hxd per breed
bees: gen 1's to breed, approx losing 50 hxd per breed
breeding fee: 175 (2 breeds, 150 and 200 each).
Costs: 333 hxd

Sales price highly depends on the result of course, but we went for quality, let's say we get a high zone 5/zone 6 200 stat bee with a specialty. Those start at 350 hxd. So would I risk it? Probably not, maybe only to get extra XP. For sure go for Earth bees btw, Cocarro bees start a lót lower even.

Low quality bees:
Queen: 18 breeds for 300 hxd = 17 hxd per breed
bees: gen 2 or 3 to breed =  free
breeding fee: 150 (1 breed only, they're not limited).
Costs: 167 hxd

Sales would be the absolute floor in most cases, which would be 158 hxd at the moment.
So obviously I would also not go for this option. Maybe only to 'buy' XP.

What can go wrong? 🤷
Idk what you mean, it's a perfect strategy, nothing of course!
Nah, like every strategy there are flaws. This one pushes a little bit more for quantity over quality and uses the massive hxd reserves in the low zones. As soon as everyone reads this blog and figures this out too, those might be gone soon. Your bees will not be worthless, but your strategy would need to change. For the biggest benefit those bees would now need to turn into hunting (sniping) bees, OR it is your cue to transition into a higher zone/stat hive.

However, if you would like to change your playstyle to snipe hunting, you would also have a perfect bee set for that. It is not as versatile as a high zone/high stat hive, but that would also come with a price tag. Snipe hunting will give you many egg shards and depending on the circumstances at that moment you can either expand you Earth hive or hatch more in Cocarro and grow your hive there.

Icerax: How to open the portal to Cocarro

Day 16 Dear Diary, I'm going for Icerax! Startegy: get 1-3 bees with luck > 250. They're supposed to stay in the battle for a long time, and will do a lot of damage that way. So I've bought a couple of relatively cheap luck upgrades and upgrades the highest luck bees. These 3 are supposed to be my MVP's! I started the battle with 3975 attack, the battle starts at 01:00 am for me. When I woke up, this was the snapshot, already more than the minimum needed to qualify! And when the evening started it looked like this It's looking good I think! If I filter by luck, I see all the high luck ones are still in the battle! It's paying off!  Oh, I also see I upgraded 1 that can only fight last few hours  My advise, when you don't have many bees, go for a few with high luck! I also made level 13 by the way 🔥

Icerax? Hunting profits? Cocarro Team? Answers to big questions!

Day 18 Dear Diary, I know, I know, you're wondering: - Did she get the portal stone from Icerax?! - Is she still hunting? - If so why? Or why not? - What are we even gonna do in Cocarro? Let me immediately jump into this.  I had more than enough damage, ended up as 19 and as expected my luck upgraded bees did most of the work and survived the full battle! See my other blog for more info about this strategy. And now what?! Yeah, good question. After spending all HXD on earth assets this was now more of a pride thing than anything else. However, I did buy the starter pass now for 200 HXD. This would allow me to do explore missions. Maybe we can get some bees and a queen to do some of those.  So how to get those bees? Well, hunting of course!! I did another 100 hunts and re-checked the profits to see if I should still be hunting. It's an overwhelming YES. Check it out. These are today's market prices and the green ones are the most profitable. Also, I pay a max of 0.5 per ...
